Dissonance in due process: An investigation into IU's handling of a sexual misconduct case

Indiana Daily Student — Jan 27, 2022

Judge comment: "Excellent in-depth reporting and follow ups. A lot of voice represented for a well-rounded story."

Judge comment: "This is powerful original reporting that defines true “Big J” journalism with an eye toward accountability and evocative storytelling. This is more than a commitment of numerous months to telling the story. This is an in-depth, shot-to-the-gut enterprising piece about a university that looked the other way and seemingly ignored its own standards related to student behavior. Kudos to the student journalists involved in this consequential story."

Judge comment: "This story raises serious questions about how the university handled a sexual assault case and its aftermath. The writers’ meticulous reporting revealed that after a university panel found a music student responsible, the school looked the other way while he blatantly violated the terms of his suspension. The story makes a strong case that the school’s failure to act more quickly, and to follow through more decisively, only added to the victim’s pain."
